Amazon’s Automate Pricing Tool Review – Pros and Cons for FBA Sellers

April 12, 2021 By Stephen Smotherman 21 Comments

One easy way to grow your Amazon profits is to use a repricing program that automatically updates your prices based on the prices of your competition. For beginners, manually repricing your inventory can be a good skill to learn so long as your inventory levels stay at a manageable level…. but who really wants to keep their inventory levels low? Not me! I want to grow my inventory so I can grow my profits. But once your inventory levels begin to grow and manually pricing your inventory all the time becomes a chore, then it’s time to upgrade to an automatic repricing solution.

When it comes to automatic repricers, there are both free and paid tools you can use to take over the repricing needs of your Amazon business. In today’s video post, I’ll share with you the pros and cons of using Amazon’s free repricer tool: Automate Pricing. Watch this quick video, then keep reading the post for my final thoughts on Amazon’s Automate Pricing tool.

In summary, Amazon’s Automate Pricing tool is probably best for those of you who have a very small amount of inventory and a small amount of capital to invest into tools that will aid in your business growth. It’s a free tool, which is good, but you know the old saying about free tools: “You get what you pay for.” Amazon’s pricing tool will help you lower your price in order to get the next sale, but completely lacks two key factors: 1) the ability to raise your prices more often to help you earn even more profits in the long run and 2) the ability to customize your repricing rules to better reach your profit goals.

For more information directly from Amazon about Automate Pricing, you can click here (sign-in to Seller Central required).

I’d love to hear from you in the comments.  Do you think you’re ready to start using an automatic repricer to help increase your Amazon sales? Have you tried Amazon’s Automate Pricing tool? What was your experience with it? Have you used a paid tool like BQool? Let me know in the comments below.
*This post updated for 2021

Why reprice with limited options when you can create your own custom repricing rules with BQool?

Manually repricing is great when you have lower inventory levels and can handle repricing from time to time, but once your inventory levels start to get larger, you might want to consider using an automatic repricer like BQool. While Amazon’s Automate Pricing tool is free, their repricing rules are way too limited for the results I’m looking for in a repricer.

We started using the BQool automatic repricer service in September of 2018, and now we wonder how we ever ran our Amazon business without it.

If you’re wondering how well BQool works, just know that for the first month of using Bqool, our sales literally doubled. Not only that, but BQool syncs with our InventoryLab account and automatically imports my buy costs into Bqool. This is a huge time saver.

For a 2-week free trial of Bqool, click here.

Free BQool Bonus – If you sign up for BQool via the link above, then I’ll send you my own personal BQool repricer settings that helped me double my sales the first month of using it. Just contact me from the same email you used to sign up for BQool (so I can verify your free trial) and once verified, I’ll send you my personal BQool repricer settings.

When using a repricer, can you have it reprice just to FBA pricing?

Amazon’s Automate Pricing Tool – Yes, you can set it up to only reprice with other sellers of the same fulfillment method as you. So if you’re FBA, then it will only reprice against other FBA sellers. But Automate Pricing will only price your item down, and never up.

BQool – Yes, you can set it up with that rule, as well as other rules that also work together to help you get more profits too, like repricing upward. More info: https://www.fulltimefba.com/bqool

Thank you for your reply. I am a small seller but trying to grow. I keep worrying about IPI and maybe a repricer would help. I will look into it more.

I’ve noticed that using the BQool repricer has helped my sell through rate get much better, and that has helped my IPI score.

Have you used informed.co? How does bqool compare if you have? I tried informed for the free trial and was amazed by the results but it keeps causing issues with my listings getting disabled due to pricing errors. Was going to try Amazon but am concerned after your review of it.

I tried the free trial of Informed and had similar issues. Also, Bqool is WAY much more affordable and with BQool I finally found the results I was looking for without all the errors. Try BQool and use my repricing rules (details at the end of the blog post above on how to get my repricer rules).

Stephen, Can you tell me if you can set a listing to go no lower than your break even and how easy or hard it is? Does each new listing have to have any special set up?
    Thanks, Janet

With BQool, all you have to do is input your buy cost, and then you can choose your minimum price to the “break even” point by using the FBA Calculator within the Bqool Repricing Central. BQool does the math for you and can tell you when your minimum price hits the break even point. If I already use a repricing tool what do I do about/with it during the trial? Also, do you still produce a monthly table of what’s in the various sales categories at Amazon? If so, how can I access one? Thanks.

You can just pause your current repricer so that nothing is active, and start your 2 week free trial with BQool (https://www.fulltimefba.com/bqool). Then after two weeks you can see which repricer you like best.

As for the sales rank chart, Amazon no longer lets anyone get the data to make the chart, so we can’t update the chart. But I still use the most recent sales rank chart and it’s still very applicable to today’s Amazon landscape.

I absolutely LOVE BQOOL! Great blog and thanks for sharing this info + the repricer rules! As a newer seller, I was a tad overwhelmed with all the rule options, but after receiving your notes it was a breeze!

My concern is pricing. I sell books now and will soon move some of my vintage inventory into Etsy or amazon. With 1000+ books and growing I am reluctant to sign up for something when costs are determined by inventory count.
    Thanks for what you do

Well, the more inventory you have that needs repricing, the more you’ll need to pay for the service.

I used BQool at your suggestion and used your guidance to set it up. I used it for a year, but found it hard to keep up with, it did not update my pricing, and I ended up doing a lot of manual Repricing anyway. I left BQool about 5months ago.

So maybe. like Ecomdash., they will consider pricing based on sales, you know , like a good stock broker is paid more if I make more.

    Hi
    Thanks for the post
But I think it’s very difficult to calculate the ACOS
If the price changes all the time
    what are you saying?
